Leathered is the new buzz word...

    For many years now, the natural stones that AUTOSTONE has sold have been available in either a polished finish or a honed finish. A polished finish is "shiny" and brings out the full color of the stone. A honed finish also brings out the color of a stone, but is not shiny. It is more of a "matte" look. Both are smooth to the touch. Now, stone factories are offering a textured finish called "granite." Different companies call the finish by different names, such as "antiqued" or "brushed" . All of these names refer to a similar process where diamond tipped brushes are spun across the surface of the stone and the softer elements of the particular material are worn down, creating a textured surface, simialar to the texture of a real cowhide leather.

    AUTOSTONE is stocking a collection of leathered materials that have been imported from overseas factories. However, most of our locations have arrangements with local shops that can process most any of the other materials that we stock that only have the polished or honed finish.
