NATURAL GRANITE

Granite (pronounced /rænt/) is a common and widely occurring type of intrusive, felsic, igneous rock. Granites usually have a medium to coarse grained texture. Occasionally some individual crystals (phenocrysts) are larger than the groundmass in which case the texture is known as porphyritic. A granitic rock with a porphyritic texture is sometimes known as a porphyry. Granites can be pink to grey in color, depending on their chemistry and mineralogy. By definition, granite has a color index (i.e. the percentage of the rock made up of dark minerals) of less than 25%. Outcrops of granite tend to form tors, and rounded massifs. Granites sometimes occur in circular depressions surrounded by a range of hills, formed by the metamorphic aureole or hornfels.
Granite is nearly always massive (lacking internal structures), hard and tough, and therefore it has gained widespread use as a construction stone. The average density of granite is located between 2.65[1] and 2.75 g/cm3, it's compressive strength usually lies above 200 GPa and its viscosity at standard temperature and pressure is ~4.5 • 1019 Pas.[2]
The word comes from the Latin granum, a grain, in reference to the coarse-grained structure of such a crystalline rock.
Granitoid is used as a descriptive field term for general, light colored, coarse-grained igneous rocks for which a more specific name requires petrographic examination.[3]

Cobblestone Landscaping Design Tips

Granite cobblestones are well known for their beautiful appeal and durability in your landscape. Although one of their most common uses is as pavement material, their versatility makes it easy to choose them for a number of different applications. You can use them for building a retaining wall, creating steps or a walkway, putting an edging along grass, and setting pavers in driveways, courtyards and patios.

Are you planning a project with granite cobblestones?
While planning out that next project, here are some designing tips:
·         Don’t be afraid to use large cobblestones in smaller gardens. They will help your space seem larger. Create a wall with them along with climbing plants and taller shrubbery to create the illusion of a secret garden. Or if you want them to be less prominent, add them to create a charming walkway to your garden.
·         For larger gardens, use them to build a focal point such as a wall with a fountain or in the background for a retaining wall. You can also divide sections of your landscape using them to give each section its own look and function.
·         Incorporate the cobblestones as edging to create a formidable barrier for weeds, grass and mud while adding a level of luxury that can help increase your property value. When doing this keep the top of the stones in the same plane so the edging appears uniform. For best results, dig a narrow trench and then position them in a line or curve with the height you want as opposed to installing them one at a time.
·         Mix and match colors for a stunning effect. Lay them down to get an authentic old world walkway or driveway. Black and gray granite cobblestones look fabulous in high-traffic areas inside and outside of a property or establishment. Combine various shapes and orientations, such as laying cobblestones in a basket weave design, to break up a rather monotonous area.

·         Use only genuine granite for its lasting durability in high traffic areas. Granite will last longer than concrete and other materials, which is why they work so well for driveways and walkways.
·         Start with granite cobblestones for the base in your landscape design, that way you can decide on the amount of impact you are aiming for in your project.
Autostone Center offers the best quality materials for all your projects. And we can assist you in selection and design for both residential and commercial projects.
